COVID-19 Guidelines for using Indy

For the time being, we are only accepting experienced climbers and places can only be booked if you are a member of the Indy. If you are an experienced climber and want to become a member please get with us in touch first to register. This is free.

We have greatly reduced our capacity to just 36 climbers in order to allow climbers to move around the wall more freely whist still being able to maintain social distancing. As such we have reluctantly introduced a prebooking system to help us manage these numbers more effectively then we could do by using an occupancy counter.

Sessions will be limited to 2.5hrs. If you’d like to climb for longer please ask at reception 15minutes before the end of your session and if we have space we will extend your session for free.

Setting wise we’ve been busy, where possible we have tried to ensure a high density, and wide grade range of problems and routes in each area in order to help you get the most out of your session. There’s loads of fresh new stuff to get you psyched and still loads of the comp problems up awaiting a rematch…

INSTRUCTIONAL GROUPS! For the time being we are only accepting small instructional groups of experienced climbers, such as Mountain Training Award schemes, coaching, etc. If you need to use the wall for a group please get in touch and we can block out time slots accordingly. We are not currently running any kids clubs but we will be running Family Taster sessions and Bouldering Inductions once we’ve been open a week or so.

PARENTS/SUPERVISING CLIMBERS: Parents who wish to supervise children must be a full member of Indy and book time slots for themselves and any children. Only 2 may be supervised. Due to our massively reduced capacity we will be charging anyone supervising or belaying an entry fee until further notice.

Full members wishing to supervise novices may only do so if they are part of the same household.

NON-CLIMBERS: Please do not come to the wall if you are not climbing as we do not have the space.

Please, where possible arrive ready to climb and follow the signage and floor markings.

Please be respectful and considerate of other climbers by social distancing, both on and off the wall.

All customers should arrive wearing a facemask. Facemasks must be worn at all times in the wall, except whilst climbing or waiting to climb (i.e. when on the red bouldering mats). We have face coverings at the wall for sale at £5 each.

If it’s been a while since you’ve been to the wall then remember to take into account any skill fade. Take it steady at first and if you’re not sure of anything then please ask! ?

Face coverings must be worn in the climbing wall building unless you are climbing or resting between climbs.

When climbing we ask all customers to carry their face coverings with them and to use them if resting/chatting/having a moider for any extended length of time., we do have them for sale if required.

We highly recommend liquid chalk with at least 70% alcohol content. Other chalk types are permitted.

When climbing on top ropes or lead, please keep at least one rope line between climbers.

Avoid touching your face! Cough/sneeze into a tissue or crease of elbow.

Sanitise regularly during your session. Dispensers will be available within the wall space.

When you’ve finished climbing check out so we know you have left the building.

The shop is open, please get in touch if you need a shoe fitting or similar.

If you need to cancel your booking please give us at least 24hrs notice so we can open up the time slot.

Climbing walls, like gyms, are considered one of the highest risk environments for COVID transmission, and with a threat of a ‘second wave’ we are taking a very cautious approach to reopening Indy in order to keep staff, customers and the wider community as safe as possible.

We have followed the government and Association of British Climbing Walls guidelines to ensure we minimise the risk. However there will always be a residual risk, and we can keep this risk to a minimum by simply following the basics:

Stay home if feeling unwell.
Social distance.
Sanitise/wash hands regularly.

  • You are showing any symptoms of COVID, no matter how mild; which include recent onset of a new continuous cough or a high temperature or a loss of, or change in, normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia). If you simply feel under the weather then consider giving climbing a miss, your body will thank you for it and you’ll come back stronger.
  • Within 10 days of testing positive or showing any symptoms of COVID.
  • Within 14 days of coming into contact with anyone who has shown symptoms or tested positive for COVID.

If in doubt please don’t come, we want to keep everyone as safe as possible and remain open through this difficult time.
